In my life, prior to agreeing to participate in said race, I had been on skate skis maybe 10 times. Beth and John even less...zero. And, Mick, to her credit, only a handful of times, and that was a hundred years ago. Well, after training once or twice a week for the past few months, I can say 2 things with certainty: 1. I suck. 2. I would rather be skiing or mountainbiking. I mean, hell, trying to finish 51k on skate skis after only really learning to skate 3 months ago is like 5k Shelton trying to run a marathon in January. Not promissing.
Oh well. So, Beth and I decided to tackle Alley's Loop Nordic Race in sweet Crested Butte this past weekend in preparation for the big dog in Wisconsin on February 27th. The results? My suckage is steadily increasing. Beth's steadily decreasing.
Kickin' it old school style in the subi...pre-race

About to lineup and throw down
Due to some, umm, technical difficulties, Beth had been waiting at the beergarten for a bit after her race and before I finished. We enjoyed a few beverages courtesy of New Belgium. Snow, beer and really cool folks are all I need. Life is beautiful on days like this.
Water at 7pm after a big race? What the f? Yep, Beth is a quitter.
why does Beth not look like a raging queer set loose on an aircraft carrier full of sexually ambigous male sailors about to set out on a 6 month tour in her race outfit but you do in yours?
ReplyDeleteBecause she is a quitter, that is why. As for me, I don't quit, even if it means I am going sailing with the "boys."
